Music Teaching

Learning  a musical instrument is an extraordinarily rewarding experience that offers the opportunity to develop skills and abilities to be enjoyed for a lifetime.  The positive cognitive impacts are seen in the young and old alike, from stress management to improved memory and even physical health.  It's beyond doubt that the developing brains of children benefit greatly from a musical education, helping in areas of attention, concentration, personal discipline and literacy.  Critically, to reap these rewards in full, studies have shown that children must be fully engaged in the musical experience, and there's no better way to ensure that than personal one-to-one tuition.

In addition to over 25 years playing, Rachael has more than a decade of wide-ranging experience teaching music, both in schools and privately, as well as individually and in groups (large and small).  She is a member of the incorporated society of musicians.  Please see more information about Rachael and her career here.

Music lessons are offered in:

  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Singing
  • Musical Theatre
  • Piano
  • Bassoon
  • Theory/Aural

Lessons at WaterSide Music are held in the dedicated music studio, accessed through a private entrance from the parking area.

This well-equipped teaching and practising space is large enough to double as a performance area for recitals or other events but intimate enough to foster a comfortable environment for musical development.  The studio houses a Pinkham grand piano, other instruments, teaching mirrors, a table for theory work, and audio/visual equipment to be suitable for the needs of each pupil.

Accompanying adults are welcome to wait for pupils receiving tuition or to observe lessons. Comfortable seating is available in the main studio itself or an adjacent room, with complimentary light refreshments available.

Rachael is also happy to offer "at home" lessons to pupils, and supports the villages and area within and between Oxford, Abingdon, Wallingford and Thame.

Rachael welcomes all new pupils for a no-obligation trial and consultation lesson, to meet each other, begin working together,  develop and understand instrumental preferences as well as those for genre and style, and establish musical goals.
